Jessica Cleary-Kemp

I'm a graduate student in linguistics at UC Berkeley, in my sixth year of the program. I work on Koro, a small, undescribed language spoken in Papua New Guinea. My dissertation focuses on the morpho-syntax of this language, but being a lone fieldworker requires you to work on all aspects of the language (phonetics, phonology, semantics, discourse, etc.). Living day-to-day in a small remote village also forces you into unfamiliar and often uncomfortable situations. I hope to eventually find a job that utilizes both my analytical skills and my people skills and adaptability.
