I'm going into the third year of my PhD program in English at UC Davis. I'm still in the very nascent stages of developing my research interests, but I've been heavily invested in developing online courses/online writing pedagogy and have consequently been thinking a lot about the theoretical implications of online education and what it means to learn writing at a distance. This has also led me to think a lot about science/society studies and the rhetorics around the humanities in a "data" and information-driven culture (especially given Obama's most recent decision to create a "scorecard" system for universities, one which promotes streamlining students into science-oriented careers). I'm hoping to learn more about intersections between humanities and science research, too, and how I might leverage visual-informational skills to develop more ideas.
